CO / Propane Leak Alarm

This last weekend, my CO/Propane Lean detector went off. It turned out to be a low battery in the trailer, not a CO or Propane leak. The signal is not a little chirp like a smoke detector with low batteries, rather, it was a loud alarm for a second, repeating every 30 seconds.

I read some other accounts of this happening at 2 or 3 in the morning. Fortunately, my episode happened at 5pm. The face of the unit says something to the effect, "alternating red and green LED, and 30 second alarm interval: low battery".

I don't recall a single mention of this during the walk through.

  • Yes, just something to be aware of. It can be concerning without knowing that a low battery will cause the "warning" condition and what should be done about it. Good luck with your new RV and make sure to browse through the manual for other good information. Enjoy.

It runs off the coach batteries, which I had used for 2 days without charging - my bad.
  • Typical walk-thru.

Owners NEED to READ all manuals, brochures, pamphlets, information sheets etc that come with a new RV

If none supplied.....google the component or ask here

The LP Detector portion is the section that monitors the battery voltage and alarms on Low Battery.
The detector also has a 'shelf life'===typically 5-7 yrs but can fail sooner.

They are wired DIRECTLY to your RV Battery....as such that are a parasitic draw

Sensor can get 'coated' from dust, animal hair, sprays (expellant) which shortens their life

Expiration date should be on backside of unit

Did you get a manual for it? It is well known they are better house low battery voltage alarms than CO/propane detectors. Almost 600 posts when I search low battery and CO.

They do not have time to cover EVERYTHING during a "walk through". Carry spare batteries for next time.

Good luck with the new rig.
