Well, if you can put cola into the tank by drinking it first, then I suppose you could also put worms into the tank via a similar method! - MarkieBobExplorerWow did I open a can of worms! Been fun reading them

That said, the technique was 100% effective and required very little or no wire brushing or other mechanical follow up.
We typically rinsed the terminals and battery case with water afterwards to prevent leaving a sugary syrup residue.
Again, this was 40-50 years ago. - Charlie_D_Explorer

May be a limited case, but pour Coca Cola on the corroded terminal posts of an auto battery and watch it do its work.
Agreed that it may be limited but why pour an extremely mild acid on an acid? Limited chemistry experience but I would assume one needs something to neutralize the acid. If so, a neutral or soda ash would be needed. A product with caustic would be needed if trying to neutralize acid. - Charlie_D_Explorerdouble post

It is a mixture of Citric acid and baking soda. Ratio, I believe, is 3 to 1. Foams up very well. Clean your tanks, I don't know. I only use water and drop a deodorant pack in after cleaning and headed home. I leave about 2-4 gallons in the tank
I don't subscribe to the Coke theory. Never saw it clean anything very well. As another poster said: It's the Phosphoric Acid but the amount in Coke is too small to work. - John_BettyExplorer

I think they only gave you half the recipe. A really deep cleaning requires that you add not only a lot of Diet Coke but also a pack of Mentos:
Coke and Mentos
Too funny!!!!!!!! :B - Horizon170ExplorerI remember in 1956 driving from Atlanta to Franklin, NC in the rain. Windshield was covered with oil from the road so I got a 6oz coke in a glass bottle, shook it up and sprayed on the WS with the wipers on. Cleaned the WS perfectly.I have used that method many times after that except now we have WS washers.

Can I drink the two liters of Cola first and then put it down the toilet afterward?
Does this work with beer too?
"No dear, I haven't had too many brewskies. I'm just loading up to clean out the black tank." :)
For those of us of a certain age, back in the day we thought that Coca Cola poured on corroded battery terminals would remove that corrosion in a jiffy. It was further believed that Pepsi Cola and RC Cola would not work.
Your post has me envisioning a guy standing astride a battery with corroded terminals and a stream of recycled Coca Cola raining down - while sparks and lightning flashes travel upward.
Ouch!
TMI ! :)
