Coleman Mach Air not working at times

I have a Coleman Mach Air conditioner (Model # 8333c8714) and at times when it has been cycling on and off during the day it will come on and blower will start and then you will hear the compressor try to come on. If I watch my voltage meter when the compressor tries to come it the voltage will nose dive and it will stay that way for several seconds and then the compressor will shut off and and then it will try again every few minutes. Most of the time when it does this it will never end up coming on and just the blower will stay on blowing warm air. This happens in hot and cool weather and has been going on for the last few years. If it is HOT out and it just constantly runs, it runs fine and puts out lots of cold air. It only happens when it is actually cycling on and off and just sporadically. I have found that when it does this if I turn it off for about an hour and then turn it back on, it works just fine then. I have replaced both the Start capacitor and the Run Capacitor and the wall thermostat and it still does it. Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. Thanks!
  • At one time I remember reading, I believe on this forum, about a hard start kit for some coleman ACs. It was just a higher capacity start cap. It may be that your compressor just needs a little help.

Thanks for the reply! Yea it actually had that Hard Start kit on it already and I have replaced that with no luck.
  • I mentioned this on a similar thread, take the cover off and clean all the spade tips. There is also a thermal overload sensor in there that may need replacing, it is cheap part and will shut down the compressor if it detects overheating or its faulty & shorting out. I replaced mine a couple of years back and it fixed the problem. If I recall its a black disk with a pair of wire s leading to it. I think if you unplug it and the compressor comes on, its the problem (or maybe its the other way around, you need to short it out)

Just wanted to post a follow up. I did replace that Thermal overload sensor and this weekend was the first time we got out camping since I had replaced it. The Air ran perfect. So I am hoping that fixed the issue! Time will tell. Thanks for suggestion!
