Color monitor upgrade for back-up camera(s)

my lcd monitor has two video inputs, just push a button to select
i bought a second camera to mount as side view on the curb side
but i haven't got around to mounting it

when you want three or more cameras, you are going to need a switcher or a dedicated replacement system

My Back-up camera system has Voyager Side and Rear Cameras with a Voyager VOM-73SNWIN Monitor. The Monitor is 7" black and white with 600 TV line resolution.

I'd love to hear from someone with a similar system, and compare their experiences.

It looks like replacing the built-in monitor is a big deal, especially trying to configure all of the inputs, and probably more $$$ for a compatible system than I would like to spend. I'm starting to like my B/W system more.

My new Voyager 7" LCD replacement monitor is a FAR better/clearer picture with the original B/W camera. It is slightly smaller than the dash opening but comes with the bracket and patch cord to adapt it to the original CRT mounting and wiring. My CRT monitor was discontinued and not available.

If I replace the CRT monitor will the LCD monitor picture quality be improved using the same B&W camera?

I was lucky enough to find the Exact replacement camera/monitor for my coach. The prior owner kept his rear view monitor on all the time. The original camera is B&W I I can adjust the contrast\brightness so it looks like daylight during the night time. If adjusted properly I can even see the TOADS tail lights reflectring off the street. I can see that te brake lights as well as the turn signals are working.

As posted below B&W cameras are fantastic!

One thing you might consider, instead of upgrading to one monitor that handles switching (which I believe are quite expensive), just get 3 single input monitors and have all 3 on all the time.

I believe on of the biggest issues is that there is no standard for the pin outs of backup cameras so you might have to play around to find the right pins or hope you can find a wiring diagram.

I foresee a couple of problems.

A multi-camera setup needs some sort of video switcher. This may be part of the monitor. If you replace the monitor you would also need to add a switcher.

Power to the cameras may come from the monitor. If this is the case, the video signal and power may use a single multi-wire cable.

Make sure the image on the monitor is a mirror image. Some monitors and cameras can be switched between normal or mirrored.

i installed a flip down 7" video LCD screen
and replaced the b&w camera with color security camera

for me, it was a big improvement , a world of difference

It looks like I need to do a bit of research.

My current resolution is not reliable to show me what I need to see. It shows detail for an instant as it first comes on, and then goes to mostly black with no ability to adjust for contrast or brightness. Although in certain light conditions, it seems fine. It might be that my monitor has a problem?

I've driven a more current Itasca with a color monitor, and the color allowed me to identify more of what is visible even with not great resolution. There would probably be no advantage in the dark?
