Commander QL270 - Statpower ProWatt

Hello. I have a 1994 Chevrolet G30 conversion van, by Getaway in Canada. Gorgeous van. There is an A/C on the roof.

There are two hatches to receive shore power. A regular 110v plugin, that cord goes to a converter that charges the battery etc.

The other hatch contains a 30 amp plug which runs into a "Commander QL270" (see picture), and that Commander has an on-off switch. There is one cord running from the Commander, it goes to a Statpower ProWatt (see picture). There are quite a few wires exiting the Statpower.

This Statpower Prowatt has an on-off switch.

The guy I got this van from seemed pretty clueless because he was selling it for his elderly father who has dementia, but he said that the roof A/C needs power from this Commander QL270. So if I want to use the roof A/C, I need to have the 30 amp cord plugged in, and turn the Commander switch to ON.

Can anyone help me understand this Commander/Statpower setup? Is it there only for the roof A/C, or does it also serve another function? If I go to a campground with 30 amp service, and plug this in, will my battery charge and all of the other functions that require shore power work?

Thanks for any advice.

  • The Commander QL270 is the main load center for your van. It should distribute power to the AC loads. It may also power an onboard converter that charges the batteries. It may have an automatic transfer switch so that a generator can be used. You'll have to do some research to see what functionality it has.

The Statpower Prowatt is an inverter. It inverts your 12v battery power to 120v AC. When the power cord from the QL270 is plugged into the receptacle on the Prowatt, you will be able to power the entire van with AC 120v. You probably won't be able to run any air conditioners, microwaves, or water heaters for any duration, or at all. If you want to run the air conditioner, the cord that is plugged into the inverter would be removed and the 30 amp cord for the QL270 would be used.
