Converting Propane Generator to multi fuels

I have a 3.4KW PROPANE Gererac generator in my RV.
I would like to convert it to DUAL fuel, Propane and Gasoline.
I know it's possible to do the other way, add propane to Carburetor, because I did it to my 6.5KW Onan.
Anyone have any idea as to making it work?

  • Call your propane distributor. They sell hats that fit atop a standard carburetor. They are experts and can guide you point by point.

I bet it would be cheaper, easier and faster to sell your gen and replace it with a multi fuel gen.

I also have a hunch that this is true. Besides a gas carburetor, you would need a fuel pump, probably some sort of a choke linkage or setup, and possibly a different or modified control board to turn the fuel pump on and off as appropriate, perhaps among other differences.

Not disagreeing with the suggestion that it may not be practical to accomplish the Mod you want, but I certainly would not shop for a "dual fuel" carb.

Rather, I'd look for a compatible gas carb for your generator and piggy back onto it with a Propane Kit. That will require no modification of the gas carb.

To get a sense of whether it is practical, goto US Carb's Forum. They are helpful and knowledgeable folks there:

You are correct. That is what I did to the BU gen. at home except that I converted to gasoline/Natural gas.
I had to drill one additional hole in the existing carb.
I have sent some e-mails out requesting info on a carb. Then I can get a propane kit from US CARB.USCARB

You need a dual fuel carburetor to fit your engine, if available it won't come cheap. After my experience with a dual fuel fork lift which we finally converted to straight propane out of frustration I would recommend leaving it alone unless you have a specific need.

The specific need is to add to the options of my Survival plan.
The conversion I did works great but it is my home back up gen.
