Cooling Coil Replacement

Had the cooling coil replaced in my Norcold N8431 refrigerator. Has anyone had this done and how long did it take for the temps to get to where they should be.

I know the ammonia has been shaken up by shipping and needs to settle but how long should this take.

We are running it on propane right now and it has only been two hours. I don't want to open it up often to check so wondering if anyone has information.
  • Once upright(settling) for a few hours is fine. It will take 24 hours for the refer to reach full cold temp. Doug
  • Thsnks Dougrainer, that is what I was wondering. Now the wait. It is only 125'F right now in Lake Havasu so it might be a bit longer.
  • Took 9 hours but is working good. Now to get out of the 120+ heat and back to normal temps.
  • As an update to the coil replacement.

    It was replaced last Friday.
Not much cooling, above 50'F by Monday morning
Bypassed the controls and ran straight 110V to the heater.
    Tuesday morning still not cooler
Purchased Dorm Fridge for items. Freezer is at 5'F
Paperwork filed with Norcold on warrenty for the replacement coil.
Should hear today when the new one will be delivered and then the shop will install right away.
Delivery will be 4-5 days since ammonia is hazardous and can't go USPS, UPS, or air freight so it just comes freight overland.

Until then I'm stuck in 120'F Lake Havasu City and Phoenix.

Need to get home for a group campout August 7th and want to stop by Rushmore on the way.

Hope all of this works as DW is not happy even tho we are looking at this as our 'Great Adventure'. Right now I'm tired of having fun.
  • Final update.

Second cooling coil unit from Norcold took a week to ship yet was installed and in 17 hours from install is now down to 40'F with an outside temp of 122 during the day and 87'F at 5am. Now I believe it is working and I can relax and start home.

God is good All the time
  • Sorry you had trouble, especially since this is not a cheap repair, but do admire your good attitude about it! Hope you get many enjoyable years out of your "new" fridge!
  • It is in, working well, and if it messes up I will just use the new guarantee.
