Discovered a number of cracks around the screw holes on the plastic cover of my Dometic Duo-Therm unit.
I have written Dometic asking what type of plastic they use as I want to use proper method and materials.
Different plastics require different adhesives or methods i.e. thermoplastic not same as thermo-setting.
I am expecting them to tell me to buy a new cover but thought someone here might know the answer.
I can do adhesive and I also have equipment to melt the plastic and reinforce with the correct type plastic if I knew what the plastic was.
PVC, ABS, PP, HDPE etc
If it's ABS I would recommend getting a sheet of ABS material and some actual ABS cement and make some reinforcing plates for the existing holes. You can order the ABS sheets from AMAZON in varying thicknesses. IIRC they come is like 12"x24" sheets for around $5 to $10 per sheet. Just make sure you get actual ABS cement and not the general purpose stuff that says its good for ABS and other plastics. The real ABS cement has actual ABS material in the cement and is much, much stronger than the generic stuff. You might not find the real stuff at the big box stores and might have to go to a actual plumbing supply store. The OATEY brand cement comes in a can that looks like this ...
