dash air

I tryed to recharge my dash air with one of those big cans of ac pro refrigerate.I hooked it up as per directions and while pressing the trigger the clutch on my compressor started clicking like crazy.I only did short bursts because i was afraid something was wrong. When i stared the gauge was at 10 psi by the time i was done with the whole can it went up to 25psi it was a 32oz can i think.I went to auto zone and asked the clerk about it and they said it would take more for an rv and the clicking was normal to,It would stabilize after it worked through the system.I bought another small can when i hooked it up the clutch on the compressor done the same thing only this time it clicked about three time and than made a loud screeching noise.I used that whole can and the gauge never got over 25 psi.Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

What should be done is the low pressure cutoff needs to be jumpered then start charging the system. That pressure guage will be different based on ambient temp. The screeching could be that the clutch engaged when pressure got up enough to turn it on and the compressor is frozen and that was belt screech
It was more like a grinding sound than a screeching sound. It would click like the cluch would engage and disengage real quickly about two or three times than it would grind. All this happened while holding down on the trigger on the can. When i would let go it would stop.I put some super ac sealer in before the second can i wonder if it sealed the service port?Althogh i was able to empty the second can into it without any change in pressure.

My experience with low refrigerant is any time it's low, there's a leak in the system and adding more works only for a short while.

X2! Adding refrigerant is not normal, there is a leak. Depending on the size of the leak you can limp along for a year or two by recharging, but sooner or later you'll have to address the problem.

  • I believe your problem is not having a trained pro evacuate then recharge your system. It is well worth the added cost.
