- j-dExplorer IIWhat caused the dead chassis battery? In some coaches, you can run it down playing the dash radio. Repeated operating of the electric steps is another possibility. But if more items, used while you're camping, are connected to chassis battery you could move them to "House" batteries.
If your chassis battery is going bad, suggest you replace it right away. My neighbor tried to start his Ford/ClassA/V10 with a really low battery and ended up replacing Starter and Solenoid before it'd start once the battery was charged. I can't prove it, but I think low cranking voltage burned the windings out. - elle8Explorerhey thank you everyone ,,,, my rig does have that switch and it worked perfectly . awesome thanks again
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIMany coaches (Mine included) have a button marked AUX-START or EMER-START or BOOST or some such.
What doe sit do
It jumps the engine battery off the house batteries without haveing to haul your.... you know what... out of the driver's seat.
SO yes, it is ok to do that. - 1492ModeratorMoved from Forum Technical Support
- YC_1NomadLooking at your picture you should have a switch to "jump start" it on that unit. That said, many RV's do not charge the engine battery when plugged into shoreline power or when running the generator. In that case a small maintainer charger or a "trik-l-start" device work great.
And Yes, you can jump the batteries but be extremely careful of sparks. Be sure the area is well ventilated before making any connection and do wear protective glasses. You would only need one cable to connect the positive battery leads.
One caution if jumping banks of batteries. Some RV's use 6 volt batteries connected in series like flashlight batteries to get 12 volts. So don't make the mistake of connecting a 6 volt positive to the 12 volt positive of the engine battery. - ksg5000Explorer III'd be surprised if your rig doesn't have a built in switch to connect the batteries - even modest priced smaller rigs have that feature.

you people are awesome ,,,,accept the guy that says wrong forum ,,,,give me a break here man.
Also this should be in Tech Issues, not here in Forum Technical Support.
Why you ask? Its because there are those of us who monitor such teensy infarctions and will immediately jump upon any hapless, unwary miscreant trying to foist such outrages upon an otherwise civil group of wandering, some call homeless, some call.....lost souls.
Good luck....:) - You should have a switch on dash to do as you wish. My Fleetwood is marked "AUX".
No you do not need to disconnect any battery leads to use a Trickle charger. - elle8Exploreryou people are awesome ,,,,accept the guy that says wrong forum ,,,,give me a break here man.
- elle8Explorerponcho my man ,,,, okay the trickle charger sounds the best . do i have to disconnect the cables from the battery . and what kind of trickle charger should i buy . are they all pretty much the same .
