I have a Detroit type Baldwin twin (paralleled) spin-on primary filters and a Racor "S" type cartridge in the second filter. Like you I am extremely leery of trying something less effective - the S elements are 1-micron. I would die if that custom calibrated PT pump went bad. Top-stop injectors aren't cheap either. The primary can hold an incredible amount of Junk and sacrifice itself. The Racor element is more expensive by far. Wolfe10 above hit the nail right on the head. Fussy me demanded a 1-micron final.
