Direct TV - What Equipment Do I Need

Due to the amount of time we travel, we want to cut the cable. We rarely want TV while camping, but we are missing our MSU Spartans, and Red Wing fixes. We want to sign up with Direct TV. Before we do thought it would be a good idea to find out what I really need and do not need. Our PW came with Visio TV and Blue Ray player. We will not be watching TV while going down the road. Thanks for you thoughts,
  • A Verizon smart phone or tablet with College Sports Live, NHL Game Center, Hulu, and Amazon Plus on the internet. No need for dish set up or paying extra for Direct TV. You might need some cabling to get it on to a big screen but that depends on the phone.

I got rid of Direct TV 6 yrs ago when the wife got a smart phone.

Verizon link to hook phone to TV
  • We have DirecTV at home and when camping season arrives, we remove one of our receivers from the house and it goes into the RV. It stays there until the season is over in late fall. We don't really miss it because we are usually in the RV. We have our local channels if we are within about 100 miles (we are in the mountains, so that makes a big difference in the radius). You can have it set up on East/West and just networks instead of locals.
  • And someone from Directv who is honest and knows the package you will need to get your favorite sports teams. Didn't work for us - takes maybe 3 or 4 calls to get someone who comes through.
  • Get a DirecTV package
Get a SD DirecTV box (at Amazon or SolidSignals, etc)
Get a Winegard G2 portable satellite dish

You are totally automatic then. No "dish pointing" and the G2 is state of the art!
  • On the cheap, you will want a tri pod, an oval dish a LNB and a receiver. In addition you will need sufficient coax cable to allow you a clear view of the southern sky.
  • I''m interested in this too. Red wings for sure. But a Michigan fan instead.

We have 3 outlets. We have directv at home,

To get HD you need a better satellite dish. The portables only support SD.
We know we want to be able to watch different things. And it would be nice to be able to record while stopped to time shift, particularly when there is bad weather.

What tv plan do you need to get to watch the Spartans and the Wing?

You need a tripod, or some dish mount.
    A 3 lnb directv dish
    Cable to the PW
    A Splitter
Power inserted to back feed power to the dish lnbs
And a receiver for each tv. Dvr if u want to record.
