Do I need solar or more batteries and a better charger?

An ideal load for an inverter is short term high amperage like a toaster coffeemaker or microwave. Think inconvenience - when starting a generator for a couple of minutes would be a pain. Purchasing a generator to use sporadically short spurts raises yellow flags.

Generators recharge batteries - inverters do not.

As usual it's all about compromise.
