Somebody mentioned LED strips. Strips certainly have their niche. They can be used in 120V fluorescent light fixtures from Home Depot, or without any fixtures. The benefit of having a fixture is that you get a diffuser. Besides, LED strips have low wattage per foot ~2W/ft, which means you need a 5ft strip in place of one 2-bulb dome.
