It has appeared to me over the years that RV manufacturers are concerned about cranking out volume, not quality.

It is very common for refrigerators to be installed incorrectly like yours was. The worst culprits for incorrect installation are the ones installed in slides. Installation in a slide is less than optimal from the beginning and when done wrong the RV buyer is screwed.
