Dometic fridge temp control

I noticed the other day that this little tube had come loose from the plastic clip that you slide up and down on the metal fin to control the temperature. I slid it back into the clip, but it was so loose that there is no way it will stay while driving.

Prior to this happening, I had never really thought about how this controls the temp. My guess it is simply a matter of the vertical placement of the end of the tube, ie, has nothing to do with where it is in the clip or even how it is clipped to the fin, just its vertical position. If that is in fact the case, I should be able to use any method to secure it so long as it stays in the proper position vertically, with higher being colder. Is that right?

Also, can anyone explain how this works as a thermostat? Thanks!

Are you putting the thermister in the correct part of the clip?

The thermister should fit into the plastic loop that is between your thumb and first finger in the picture. The side away from your thumb has a deep slot that slides over the fin.

Hmmm, honestly I'm not sure but I wouldn't have tried to slide it into the deep slot that slides over the fin. I don't have the camper here at home, but next time I'm out there I'll take another closer look at the clip and make sure I'm trying to put the thermistor in the correct part of the clip.

  • The 'tip' of thermistor is suppose to just protrude from top of clip.
Clip then attaches (slides onto) far right fin.

It is the temperature sensor that the thermostat uses to control the heat source used for cooling (electric element or propane).
Thermistor measure FIN temp which will be roughly 10*F colder than compartment temp

YOUR model of Dometic fridge does not have an adjustable thermostat control on upper panel......it is factory pre-set.
By moving clip/thermistor UP/DOWN you can make minor (4*F-6*F) temp adjustments.
    UP....cooler temp in food section
DOWN....less cooler temp in food section
Wait overnight to measure temp changes (factory position is middle of fin)

Actually I was talking about drilling a hole in the plastic clip so I can zip tie the thermistor to the plastic clip. Then I can still slide the plastic clip up and down on the metal fin for temp adjustment as it was designed to do.

  • Just to be clear, I've had no problems with the fridge and I really don't think there is anything wrong with the thermistor. The only problem is that the thermistor fell out of the plastic clip and the plastic clip is just too weak to hold the thermistor securely in place. I suppose I could replace the plastic clip, but I'm thinking a zip tie would do the job. Thoughts?
  • I have seen the threads about replacing the thermistor and snip the tip, but in my case, I don't think there is anything wrong with the thermistor. It is simply a matter of properly securing it to the fin. I was thinking I could possibly drill a small hole in the plastic clip and zip tie the thermistor to the clip.
