Dometic Recall

I have 1999 Lance Camper I bought used. The Dometic fridge quit this weekend. I traced it to the recall kit. A component in the kit that looks like a diode failed. All I want to do is replace what failed. Dinosauer Electronics says it is a thermal fuse. Dometic says that a certified repair station has replace the kit. Can somebody tell me how to avoid all this and do it myself?

Try finding a shop and see if they will just hand you one- they don't cost the shop. I've replaced a number of them, if your not careful, the fuse winds up against the bottom of the heating element. It needs to be next to the burner, but not touching anything.

Chris, Dometic is very insistent that you NEVER hand recall parts over the counter. If a Shop does, THEY have the liability if something goes wrong. Doug

Yeah- I would worry about that if nearly half of the recall kits I see were not installed wrong in the first place. I have reinstalled at least a dozen- for free- and replaced another dozen thermal fuses- again for free. Now I don't have a problem doing this, but most shops are going to charge the minimum labor charge, so the customer winds up paying $50-$100 to replace a defective $0.75 part, or they are going to spend some time on the phone to Dometic.

Heck- I have mailed the limit switches because the official Dometic policy was if it broke, you had to buy a new cooling unit. I mean, please...

I think we are talking about 2 different parts. From the OP's description, he is talking about the black wrapped FLAME thermal fuse mount on the back wall. As to the THERMAL disc, Dometic does indeed state to rob a Disc out of a recall kit to replace a failed one on a refer. Dometic sent me about 5 disc's a few years ago for current model replacement that the disc, if fails, to replace. Dometic states they WILL pay labor for a recall kit failure if you call for Auth. I'm impressed this is one of few people who wants to keep it safe. Most others would do something different and we know what that is!! I would not be going out on a limb if I said more than half were improperly installed in the first place also.

  • Per Dometic, the thermal fuse for a dm2652 is the same as the recall kit thermal fuse. Just order pn 3851409015 and run with it. Be carefull as to not have installed tip touching heat element as already posted, and also watch the sharp edges of diode metal clip as rubber shield can be punctured and will short out the new thermal fuse.

Any part of the Dometic recall kit is not for sale and cannot be self installed. You must go to a Dometic service center to have it checked and if bad they will replace under Dometics recall. They have to get Auth for the labor from Dometic for replacing a defective recall component with a refer that is still functioning to specs. Doug

  • Any legible markings on it? If so then Google it and hopefully you can just buy the part someplace.
