A couple of things- the safety valve is right at the burner on that model- just to the left, the thermocouple goes in to the top, and the button that gets pushed is on the bottom, with a plastic "fulcrum" that changes the pull in to a push up. Just hold that up while you light it.
The LP thermostat is just to the left of that. A few things could cause the LP thermostat to over cool- the capillary sensing tube could be loose (there should be 2 clamped to the fins inside), the thermostat could be dirty, keeping it from closing,

or a tiny o-ring that is on a bypass screw could be missing:

This type of repair isn't rocket science, but it does involve mucking about with LP gas components- but these were made to be serviced.
