- Kayteg1Explorer IINo and reading description it is senseless design.
Refrigerator works absorption, while freezer on compressor.
Sounds like pretty expensive to build and hassle to use. - wa8yxmExplorer IIII agree with Key.
Dometic also makes a high effiency Compressor unit (or did at one time) these HE units (I have a competitor's chest freezer .. Currently sitting under my coffee cup) Draw less than 50 watts with the door closed (Goes up to around 75 when the light comes on after opening the door to give you an idea of how little that is)
Work great Or at least the chest freezer beside me does
My Freezer (An Engel) is 10 or 11 years old and in that time I've taken it outside a couple of times and blown the dust out of it.. Defrosted several times, and that's all folks. - mlts22ExplorerSo, no freezer when boondocking. Definitely a no in my book, as I like having ice.
I'd rather just have the LP gas fridge/freezer, and buy an "ice chest" Dometic compressor fridge, so I have the best of all worlds, a place to chill drinks quickly, as well as keeping stuff cold when not plugged into electric. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerOne thing for sure an ice chest keeps vegetables in much better condition for a lot longer time over gas or electric refrigeration...
- joshuajimExplorer III'm not saying I'm a fan of this thing, but according to Dometic it only draws a total of 65 watts on 12v. Not really that bad.
- jalichtyExplorerI would think the freezer only using ac or battery would draw down your battery quite quickly when out boon docking. Don't know if that makes sense.
- I would not have it. Just one more complication.

Is it 65W load, or 65w average?
My 3-way refrigerator/freezer that judging from the picture is 1 shelf smaller takes 180W max load, what in 40% cycling will make 72W average.
How about a link to tech spec? - tchilExplorerhttp://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/super-hybrid-refrigerator-right-door-swing/88495
Cool that you can select the bottom drawer to be a freezer or more fridge space. Works on Propane or electric and the layout is kind of cool. The additional cooling capacity would be nice for those times when you want to cool the fridge down for a trip on short notice. Pretty cool unit if you ask me. - AlmotExplorer III

They do. Former Tundra. Smaller units. Don't know about "high efficiency". All DC fridges, except for Engel, have Danfoss compressor. A box 6-9 cu.ft, fridge/freezer combo, draws 50-60W when running. Translates into 40-70 AH per 24 hours, this is a lot. Big solar or additional generator time is a must. Chest models, AND if it's smaller, AND if you don't open it often, AND if it's loaded with already cold items at home, AND if cabin temps are moderate (A/C running or just the weather not too hot) - then it draws several times less.
This new combo doesn't make much sense, and 65W (running?) is not awfully economic either.
