DSI igniter clicking after burner is lit

Brand new to me fifth wheel. Having issues with the water heater, electric and gas. Going to worry about gas first.

The unit lights and makes hot water. That's the positive.

It's extremely dirty and I haven't had a chance to clean it yet. The igniter clicks, the unit lights, but the igniter keeps clicking after the burner is going. I let it go for a couple minutes and it didn't ever stop.

Would a good cleaning help this issue or am I looking at a bigger problem? Never had a DSI unit before. Never had a fifth wheel before. I really enjoy hot water though so any help is appreciated!!

  • The flame safety system detects the presence of a flame by conducting a rectified microamp signal through the flame. The signal is only a few millions of an amp and it doesn't take very much to go wrong to upset the system . The surfaces that the flame contacts must be kept clean, on the ground side and on the flame rod side. The ratio of ground contact surface area to flame rod contact surface is also important. Cleaning all electric connections and the burner/flame rod parts with a Scotch-Brite pad and adjusting things properly usually does it for me. Sometimes I have to add some extra ground wires to be sure the flame rectification loop has good continuity. Craig

Ignightor board is also the master control board on most Water heaters.

I recommend DINOSAUR borads replacements.. I put one in my Furnace and I will give you my trained professional opinion of it.

When I first opened the box I got a feeling of QUALITY.. A very well constructed board Nice fat traces.. (Unlike the OEM) well built.

Second on closer inspection: I have a theory as to what killed my OEM board.. Appears Dinosaur boards shares that theory cause the is a device on the board which is NOT on the OEM board..... It is a protective device Located such I believe it is designed to prevent exactly the type of failure I suspect on my OEM board.

IN short... A very well designed and built product.

Trained Professional opinion????????????? What is your training??????? Doug

  • I would time it but it's normal for it to keep clicking for a short time because it doesn't immediately know it's lit.
If it's really going on for two minutes then there a problem but I suspect it just seem like along time.
