Here is how they do it:

Low wages
Long hours without perks like overtime
No R&D, why think when you can steal
No QC
No environment protection

Also - this needs elaborating: few cents profit per one $1.57 meter (after postage) can keep the guy happy, because his living expenses are low. 5 people living in a small 1-bdr apartment, kitchen stove moved to balcony with plywood walls - hey, it's warm with the stove anyway, former kitchen turned into bedroom for grandma - no windows, no big deal... Hi-rises up to 9 floors without an elevator - hey, you have legs, you can walk.

I agree, most of this stuff is junk. Same junk is being sold through Harbor Freight and Walmart at 5 times higher price, with profits going to Walmart execs and their Chinese partners. With a little more QC, usually done through the procurement offices in China, a random sampling, though as a result the product quality and uniformity is better.
