Elec. hot water

I just started to open up our Octane Jayco toy hauler and was ready to check the water lines and hot water tank. Lines look good and flushed fine. Filled the water tank and then flipped the switch for the water to heat up. It did not. So I flipped the switch for the LP to heat the water and it did so. Not sure why or how to fix this. Could anyone help me?

Thanks
Kerri

Did you remove the element to drain the water heater when you winterized? If so maybe it's not hooked back up.

You must be using an aftermarket heating element (Hott Rod/Lightning Rod) that goes in drain hole.....neither Suburban or Atwood require removal of OEM element to drain WH tank.
  • IF Suburban.....

    Check AC circuit breaker ON
Check rocker switch in outside compartment ON
Check the t-stat reset.push in to reset. Electric t-stat is left one in outside compartment.

    IF Atwood....
    Check AC circuit breaker ON
(No reset on t-stat....plus electric/gas use same set and gas worked)

IF still no electric then you need to check that there is 110V AC power thru the element
  • For previous posts on this same subject you might try searching this Forum for `water heater' then search the results for `repair' and read on.
  • Did you fill the water heater with water BEFORE you turned on the electric element?
  • Did you remove the element to drain the water heater when you winterized? If so maybe it's not hooked back up.

Is the switch you flipped inside the coach or on the water heater? If you have the very popular Suburban DSI-LP/Electric model, there's a switch on the left side of the heater, behind something. It has to be ON as well as any others.
