Got an electric awning, thought this was a nice thing.......Used it a couple times and very quickly realized what a total pain in the backside it is.It has 2 positions - in, or out. Period. There is no tilt, no sloping it, no adjustment whatsoever,Was out Memorial Day weekend camping in BC's Okanogan Valley and wasn't paying attention in the rain. Awning filled up with rain, I get out a broom and stand in the doorway trying to push it up to ditch the water, suddenly the cylinder collapses and down comes one end. All the water comes right in the door, floods the TT, half an inch of water on the floor. What a mess. Get it all mopped up and I'm cussing this piece of brown stuff awning. I hate it! Time to rip it off and put the good old full manual awning on so I can tip one side and let the water drain.Now every time it rains I have to pull the awning in so it doesn't fill up with water. Every night I have to put everything away so it doesn't get wet in the rain.This really defeats the purpose of having an awning...... Grumble grumble..... Can't leave my nice zero gravity chairs out, table or anything. Piece of junk. Who designed these non adjustable pieces of junk anyways?........Grrrrrrr.Rant over. Life is good, being out in the RV with good friends and good times is awesome!

Bob......What awning do you have....brand/model?Thought that the electric had a dump/pitch feature OR at least a manual pitch

I thought my electric awning on my new Bay Star motorhome would not adjust either but found out it does but I need a step ladder to make it happen. It has a small knob on each support arm. I have to pull the arm in and tighten the knob. Also remember to loosen it when retracting.

I am not a fan of the electric ones but adjust mine like the wild toad.Check it out.

On at least some electric awnings, a cylinder is designed to collapse under a rain load to dump the water. Looks like that's what occurred in this case.

I'm really glad this discussion came up. I've had my RV for 5 years and until this week I would have sworn that my electric awning was not pitch adjustable. WRONG! It is adjustable. WOOHOO!

Now I just have to cut up a pool noodle to put on the edge of the galley slide so the awning doesn't get too chafed where it rubs.

There are two models numbers and stickers on most awnings, the fabric roller tube assembly has the sticker pictured, but the hardware (arms) have a separate model number and sticker, located on the arms.

If you extend the awning right out, there's a sticker on the roller tube at the forward end. Our Carefree awning has buttons on the arms that you push in to tilt the awning. If you got the original owners manual package there should be awning info. in it. As Soundguy mentioned, if it's an older Carefree awning, then maybe you can't set the tilt.

You need a stool or stepladder to reach the buttons on these things. Luckily we have two entry doors and can reach the buttons from either steps. Pretty sure the factory didn't plan it that way...

I love our electric awning because it's so convenient and looks cool. :)

I hate our electric awning because it's so flippin' high off the ground and because it hardly tilts down. It just doesn't provide much shade, if any. :(

The overall tilt of these awnings is due to the hardware- for Dometic (A&E). the standard hardware drops the roller tube 13"- for basement hardware, the roller tube is 31" lower- quite a difference. If you have less than 12" from the top of the door to the awning rail, standard hardware must be used.

Thanks for the description. your pics look good. Awning looks better like that.
I walked by another unit in the CG I'm in right now and saw another unit with what appears to be the identical awning. Theirs has about a 20 degree pitch to it. Looks a lot better. Mine is nearly straight out.

We have one of the early models that is not adjustable. After much research and measuring several adjustable models I settled on 24" between the lower rivets. you have to drill out the bottom rivets and replace with 1/4 20 bolts.

Thanks Michael and SoundGuy.
Must be an early model as everything is permanently riveted together. I do wish I could drop it a bit. It sits at about ten degrees, lower would be nice.
If there is a retrofit or newer model, I may just change it out.
Fabric was really grungy and I tried cleaning it but still looks ugly. Don't like that, I like spotless clean everything!
