Not to mention many newer electric blankets and heating pads have a built in electronic timer for "safety" which turns off your blanket or heating pad after so many hrs.

This is one item which I would have to agree with the fact that a PSW inverter is your best bet.

My ANALOG control blanket sent up an ANALOG plume of smoke. Analog. Twist a dial with numbers on it.

First, wrong inverter. 2nd, find out how many watts is the blanket. Doing a quick search, I find 160 watts average for a queen. Doing the math, for 8 hours, no loss for inefficiencies, you will use 110 amp/hours of electricity. So, running nothing else, and not having any inefficiencies, you need a battery that will deliver at least 220 amp/hours.

Really heavy emphasis here to second the opinion a standard inverter will smoke the blanket controller in seconds. You have to use a Pure Sine Wave power inverter. I fit a comforter atop the electric blanket to minimize power consumption. A THINSULATE® blanket on top of the electric blanket will eliminate around 80% of the kWh requirements as compared to a regular blanket. This means using one heck of a lot less of the battery per night.
