I've had several electric blankets, paid under $100 for them and none hummed or buzzed or caused any problems.
I like crawling into a warm bed, in a cold room.
A heated mattress pad is a good option, I never tried one...yet.
I don't know if it makes a difference buying a $200+ blanket.
