Putting the blanket under you works, but it's not as good as a heated mattress pad that is made for the purpose.
The blanket is thinner, so it gets bunched up under you, and it has lumps -- some sort of junctions or temp sensors or something -- that you have to position your body around.
It would be ok for testing out the concept, but if you find you prefer underneath heat you'll be spending another $50 for a heated mattress pad. They last forever, though. I've had mine 15 years at least.
