Electric Cable

I am planning to run 10-2 UF-B cable about 100 ft so that I can plug my travel trailer in while at home. The trailer requires 30 amps.

I also want to add a regular 15 (or 20) amp outlet so that I could plug other things in when necessary. Can I pigtail this outlet off the 10 gauge 30 amp cable? Should I use 8 gauge wire for this? The other alternative coming to mind is running 10-3 cable instead to keep the outlets separate.

Thanks in advance for ideas/suggestions or things you did.
  • I would use 8/2 wire for this, due to the 100' length.

I would buy an RV30 power outlet box, with the added 20 amp outlet, and integrated breakers.

I went with a Connecticut Electric box, which was all wired from the factory. I just connected the 8/2 to the lugs.

  • The trailer only requires 30 amp plug in if your going to be running lots of stuff at once out there. Is this to keep the battery charged when parked or is someone going to be living in it?
