My 20+ year old Multifuel MSR campstove came with an aluminum windblock and hetshield tht one unfolds or unrolls or both, and positions around the stove base, and could be set to different diameters to better fit the skillet/pot pan. There was a small gap to allow oxygen in from the bottom, and also the fuel line from teh pressureized tank.
I used this stove a LOT when actually camping, with a tent, overseas.
Most cooking was on the ground and wind was not really much of a concern below 20mph. Even if not windy I would set up the heat/wind shield and use a lower flame setting, to conserve whatever fuel I was burning.
Still have it, still use it.
