My power company offers a full house surge protector at the box for a monthly fee. With warranty of paying for anything that gets toasted inside your house. Such as "appliances".
Only thing is if you read the fine print they will NOT cover anything if it is a lightening strike near or far or anything else for that matter unless the surge came 'directly' the power company's fault. I.E. a surge directly from their power plant. :R
And to add insult to injury they won't cover anything electronics. Which makes you think computer, etc. Well my neighbors water softener which is an "appliance" is run off a computer panel. So they would not pay for it claiming it is an electronic. They had to pay $500 for a new control panel for the water softener!:R
So REALLY check the policy from the power company to install a surge protector before you pay them for anything.
