You should buy a meter and learn the basic functions. Relying on the gauge of a charger is not reliable. You will have no idea if your batteries are 100 percent charged and what the converter is doing.
Were you able to look on all four sides of the converter for fuses? Sometimes, they are not in a good sightline.
Also, if still having DC problems check for a resettable breaker or fuse on the positive battery cable.
