Elixir Access Door Leaking
All, I have a 2009 FR Work & Play 28BR. The small (20x7.25)Elixir access door on the front left side of the camper has been leaking for some time. I did not notice this when I purchased the camper...

That was the first mod I did with my STARCRAFT OFF-ROAD 14R/T trailer.
The ELIXIR was a 30A setup and only had one circuit breaker and four fuses. The 12VDC Power distribution was four zones and many DC wires all bundled together using those big YELLOW thumb nuts... I did not see any water leaks associated with the OEM install of the ELIXIR 30A power converter. The compartment just behind the ELIXIR was where my pull-out shore power cable gets pushed into when unhooking from shore power. Only a small flip door on the outside wall there but did not ever see any water damage at that point as well...
I pulled out the ELIXIR chassis and replaced it with a WFCO 8900 Series Power Distribution center that had five full size slots for 120VAC breakers and eleven fuse positions for the ATC type fuses.. Since all of the 12V wiring came to to this area it only took a couple of hours to break all of the wiring out and wire into their separate fused positions. Had to run some additional romex to the 120VAC side and I ended up with the main circuit breaker being the 30A was full sized and then got to have the remaining four full size slot using the half size breakers giving me eight additional more 120VAC slots...
Had to cut the panel hole bigger to make room for the larger size power distribution panel which has it own built in access door etc...
The WFCO 8900 series did include a WF8945A so called smart mode converter/charger unit but found out real quick what others have found that the WFCO does not go into smart mode charging sequences like you think they should. Since it was brand new I just left it in place and just leave the 120VAC breaker for it OFF. Then I installed a PD9260C in the cabinet closes to the battery bank on the trailer tongue area and use it standalone to charge the multiple batteries in the battery bank. This converter/charger plugs into it own 120VAC receptacle and performs outstanding for the different required smart mode charging events. Changed out all the wiring for feeding the battery bank to 4AWG size wiring.
Been running this since 2009 with excellent battery performance using three each GP24 85AH Interstate Batteries that came with the trailer.
Worked out great for me doing this.
