Equalize Batteries

This is a question I must ask and some of you may know the answer, because I don't.

* If I had a RV Controller that had the ability to equalize deep cell batteries and at the same time a solar charge controller and an inverter...that all had the ability to equalize batteries * will they all work against each other to do this task, or are we to have only one of these set to do that job?

I hope someone knows
Thank you,
  • Progressive dynamics marketers should be smacked around a little bit for the temerity of calling their 15 minute bump to 14.4v from 13.2 every 16 hours destratification stage, equalization. How many has this BS marketing term confused?

Trojan ad Rolls Surrette recommended EQ voltage is 16.2v

I found that anything shy of 16v was a waste of time on one particular battery, 15.5v would not even be able to max out SG in 6 hours, but 16 could in under 2 hours.
  • Equalizing an RV battery should be a manual process where the batteries are disconnected. The 16+ volts is a bit high for the electronic appliances. And so as long as it is a manual process there would be no reason to run multiple devices to equalize.
  • Hi,

I prefer to equalize with the solar system. It is fully automated and does an equalization charge every 25 days.

The "RV controller" I am guessing is the converter. It does not equalize batteries as advertised, it just stirs them every so often when doing Float.

The solar controller will equalize at some high voltage it is set for

The "inverter" if an inverter charger would have a high voltage equalize setting.

The batteries will equalize at the higher voltage between the two but there is no need for both. Just leave the solar on normal, not to equalize and equalize with the inverter/charger. The instructions for doing that will be in its manual.

Those include disconnecting the batteries from the rig first, so the 16v equalizing voltage does not damage the rig's 12v systems. Eg the fridge has a 15.4 high limit, and light bulbs can burn out.

You need shore power for equalizing since it can take eight hours or so--too long to run the gen.
