I have a local Fast Track station that advirtises ethanol-free 91 octane. I use it in my small engines and am trying a tank for towing this weekend.
They can not sell ethanol free gas, period.
Ethanol IS required to be sold per EPA directives.
They might be advertising it to be ethanol free just to lure customers and YOU HAVE NO WAY TO PROVE OR DISPROVE what they advertise!
Ethanol is a KEY INGREDIENT for so called pollution control, it is the Oxygenate replacement used in place of MBTB (which was extremely hazardous and is now outlawed).
Additives
Oxygenates
Alcohols:
Methanol (MeOH)
Ethanol (EtOH)
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA)
n-butanol (BuOH)
Gasoline grade t-butanol (GTBA)
Ethers:
Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) Now outlawed in many states for road use.
Tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME)
Tertiary hexyl methyl ether (THEME)
Ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE)
Tertiary amyl ethyl ether (TAEE)
Diisopropyl ether (DIPE)
Those lists of Ethanol free locations are simply not true and you have no way to determine if the fuel you buy is Ethanol free...
As far as Ethanol causing major issues, really it is a bunch of b stuff. US has been serving up Ethanol laced gas since the 70s and you didn't know it. Remember Gasahol, well surprise you are buying anyway.. and have been for 20+ yrs, they just never told you that it was in there.
