- landyacht318ExplorerI spoke with somebody at the Battery distributor.
A Lifeline GPL-31XT (125AH) will be delivered to my address by the end of the week. Base price was about 20$ higher than the website listed, and tax and core charge pushed it over 4 bills. It would cost me over 20$ in fuel to go get the battery so No biggie.
Conversed a bit about the T-1275 as well. They stock or can acquire any of the t-1275 versions. He said it is a good battery, but the T-105s would outlast them at the same discharge level/number of discharges.
No surprise there. - landyacht318ExplorerThanks Niner. Don't know what I was smoking when posting the j185 was also called the t-1275. I certainly do not have the height requirements available for anything taller than the t-1275.
Getting the battery out and then back in to water the 3 furthest cells will be difficult no matter what, in my only available location for it.
I'd prefer the individual caps on the diagonal. - pnicholsExplorer IIDavid,
Thanks for that outstanding battery-value link in your original post.
I'll give them a call on Monday on how to deal long distance with exchange/core arrangements ... but before I call I have to think some more on: "Do I want to take a chance on Lifeline AGM batteries because I'm going to float them using our RV's converter .... which sits day-in and day-out a higher voltage than their recommended float voltage?" (What's encouraging to me on this issue is that I believe you float your Lifeline AGM battery at around 13.6 volts?)
By the way - from the company in your original link - here's one of the best straight-forward clear articles I've ever read on how to maintain batteries:
http://deepcyclebatterystore.com/how-to-maintain-batteries/ - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerMy batteries were manufactured when George HW Bush was fresh in office. I can just about guarantee a car that sits in a garage except for Sunday Church will outlive a traveling salesman's car of the same make and model. So claims of long life are ridiculous without knowing how much activity the battery has seen.
I know several folks tied to power pedestals in the states that purchased AUTOMOBILE STARTING BATTERIES for their coach ten to fifteen years ago. Is that claim valid ammunition? Of course not. They did not need then or now, cyclable batteries so they went to a membership warehouse and bought automobile group 24 batteries. - NinerBikesExplorer

I plan on acquiring a Lifeline g31-XT from them next week, and hopefully later, for myself, a Trojan J185, also known as the T-1275.
The T-1275 Plus has individual cell caps that are hinged, for access, versus a 3 cell cover cap FYI. So you have options, although the T-1275 does not have a carry handle integrated into the design, so keep that in mind for access to cells vs how easy or hard it is to install it into the location you have planned, if it's kind of tight access.
These cells, BTW, are Mofo'kn heavy, darn near 90 pounds each, wrestling them into place if you are an older gent could wreck your back, so be careful and respectful, no twisting your back while installing and use your knees to lift.
Double check that J-185, perhaps you mean a J-150?
Linky
Another thing I noticed is that the J-150 is almost an inch wider than a T-1275.

My MK's are date-stamped 2007, and are still in great shape. I try to be very, very kind to batteries :).
The 2 volt cells running my ham radio stuff were tel co discards years ago. Date stamped October 1984, the SG is still 1.240. Mind you as far as I can tell they had NEVER been deep discharged until a few years ago when after a power failure the "smart" battery charger was not restarted by our house sitter and were left struggling with a 1 Amp power supply. - dons2346Explorer

- jwmIIExplorerWaaay overpriced. With a good inverter/charger just about any well known battery manufacturers product will give service equal to and sometime beyond This high dollar stuff. My interstate 8D chassis battery lasted 14 years. It was going strong when I removed it. It didn't owe me anything at that point. That 14 year run didn't happen without giving that battery a lot of attention. My 2 Interstate 4D deep cycles made it 7 years.
Good maintenance practices on our batteries is essential. - landyacht318ExplorerNot floating. Just experimenting.
Noticed voltage dropping to the high 12.5's with no load applied in a day or two. Used to rest at 12.72 iirc
Put my watt meter/counter on schumacher output on 2 amp setting until it flashed its lying, yet oh so soothing, green light, to see how much it would take.
Did the same the next day.
Point is the SOB31 is self discharging at a prodigious rate, yet still has not shorted a cell. However It is just a core charge at this point.
