Extend outlet with SJ cable

I need to run an additional outlet in the front closet of my 5er. Any problem with using 12/3 SJ type wire (stranded conductor with a rubberized sheath)? It sure would make installing it easier. Of course it would all be inside a closet and clamped properly. It would just be extended from another outlet for use for phone chargers etc,

Thanks,
Steve

  • In reality, you can use anything you want to. You are not bound by any codes when doing your own work on your own equipment. But even an insurance company would like to know that you are capable of actually doing your own work, and using common sense at the same time.
I know that I do many thing on my own rig that is much easier and more sensible than the code way. But I also know what is safe, and what works, and that is all that is important to me. If you know what is safe, go for it.
But next will come the comments about insurance not paying. Don't let anyone tell you that insurance doesn't have to pay off, if it isn't done to code, because its simply not true !
  • Last I knew NEC does not allow cord, which S J is, to be used for hard wiring.
  • Hardwire. I have a TV outlet that I'll probably replace/tap into.

  • That should work OK! Are You planning to Hard wire it or just use a 3 Prong Plug?
