Exterior back mounts for kayaks?

I really want to buy the Forest River Solera S, but it doesn't have storage big enough for my yak board (small, sit-on-top kayak). And I can't be pulling it up on the roof (30+ pounds). Is there a mount for carrying a kayak I could mount on the back of the RV?

Thank you for all advice!
  • Options for carrying on roof of tow vehicle are pretty common. It has the additional advantage of dropping trailer and hauling to the water.

Edit: Uhm.. this is a Class C, isn't it? In this case, they have light trailers for canoes/kayaks, good for multiple boats, too.
  • Spend a little extra for a better seat for the kayak, and you won't have to worry about a sore back.

Get something like this (not sure if it works on a regular kayak -- it's perfect for a sit-on-top one):
    http://www.amazon.com/Ocean-Kayak-Comfort-Tech-Sit-On-Top/dp/B004RMB3HQ/ref=sr_1_3/176-1633523-8249858?ie=UTF8&qid=1391400502&sr=8-3&keywords=kayak+seats

You can pull the straps tight enough to give great lumbar support. It made ALL the difference for my back!
  • Looks like the weight is held by the hitch so the mounting to the rear wall would not have to be really strong. There should be room between tail lights for two kayaks. If not, you can easily purchase a set of clip on tail lights that could plug in to the hitch wiring.

Thanks for posting - my wife would love a kayak for her birthday. I'm skeptical, remembering a sore back the time I rode a kayak and I'm much older now.
  • Thank you for the link! I see what you mean about the license/lights. Maybe if you're only carrying one kayak and no bikes you can still see the license. Pricey, but at least I now know this exists!!

I followed a Roadtrek with one of those yesterday, looked good.
BUT... It completely hid his taillight and licence plate, asking to be pulled over.
