- Nutinelse2doExplorerSpent an hour on the phone last Friday with Fantastic/Atwood.
Talk about amazing customer service!
She says Fantastic Vents are designed so they can be open during travel. She said they are supposed to be fully open, or fully closed during travel. Not partway. She said any vent cover other than theirs ( of course ) voids the two year warranty on them. But she also stated they ALL limit airflow, and says people that get them, mostly do it for their pets when the fans have a rain sensor on them.
I always wondered why, when I forgot to close the vents on previous coaches, the vent caps didn't go flying off. And those were some pretty windy situations.
Just an FYI since there have been so many discussions about it. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer II

Is it possible to run the Fantastic Fans while pulling my 5th wheel to keep the inside cool? Will this damage the covers? Thanks.
1) Yes.
2) No. - AH64IDExplorerWe never close our roof vents.
We have never noticed anything being sucked up the P traps, or dust/exhaust being sucked in. We drive a lot of miles on dusty roads as well. - BFL13Explorer II"They" used to warn us about leaving any opening open while going down the road because it would create a vacuum and suck out the P traps which would stink out the Rv. So we always close the windows, vent lids, and the side vent for range hood.
Forgot the fantastic fan lid one time but nothing bad happened. No idea from that what the truth is, but we still try to keep it all closed while travelling. - drillagentExplorerI went to the FAQ section of the Fantastic Fan website and I found this question and answer.
Q: "Can I drive with my vent open?"
A: "Yes! It is best to have the dome completely open. There is a lifetime warranty on the dome."
What kind of answer it that? Yeah sure, you can do it. And when you screw up the dome, we'll even pay for it.
Are they serious, or am I not reading it right? - Sandia_ManExplorer IIOur 3 vent fans all have vent covers and we have run them underway a few times but there wasn't much difference compared to just leaving vents open without fans running. Unless our AC or furnace is running, we leave at least a couple of vents open all the time as the vent covers do a great job keeping any moisture from entering our rig.
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerSaw somewhere a vendor was peddling LEXAN lids, and vents that could be rotated to catch the breeze. I have experienced the effects a pointable vent and the influx of a strong flow of breeze was incredible. Sorry I did not save the link...
- wa8yxmExplorer IIII have done it in my class A.. but the lid tends to vibrate closed.
- the_bear_IIExplorerKeep in mind if you open the vents you may allow outside air to come inside as you go down the road. We left a vent cracked a little by mistake. When we stopped I opened up the trailer and there was a strong smell of diesel exhaust. We had been following a string of semis just before we pulled off the highway. We had to let it air out for a while to get rid of the smell.
- DrTanToddExplorer III would only do it if you have a vent cover as above post.
