Originally it overheated when a rusty clamp for a coolant hose snapped and the hose popped off while driving. (I have since inspected and replaced any problem clamps and hoses.) It was working a bit harder than it should have at the time due to the failing oil pump and worn bearings but never actually overheated until that hose popped off.
Doing a bit more troubleshooting today. Planning to check cat temp difference, starting manually in 1st and 2nd, and make sure all fluids are topped off still after refilling after rebuild.
Here's hoping it can narrow it down some!
