Final updates:
I was able to find a 2005 used engine & transmission combo on Marketplace for a great price. I separated the two and redid all of the seals & gaskets down to the bare block. I did not touch anything in the rotating assembly (camshaft, crankshaft, main caps, piston rings, etc). I did look at the #10 rod cap & bearing and I was happy with the condition of the bearing for having 180,000 miles on it, so I ordered two new rod cap bolts, put it back together and called it good.
Long story short - got the used motor all sealed up, replaced in motorhome and it is driving again.
The new problem is I am getting P0741 - Torque Converter Clutch code. I already pulled the transmission back and checked what I could in the bellhousing area. I replaced the front seal & the teflon ring on the stator shaft. I also replaced the filter and put about 10 quarts of new fluid in. I don't know what to chase next - a new valve body / solenoid assembly and/or a new torque converter. My line pressures are about 70% of what is being demanded by the PCM across all gear ranges & idle.

Just a quick update, topped off the fluid to the hash marks & went on a drive. It seems to have fixed now and have everything working. I also checked my line pressures with a mechanical gauge and they were great in idle.
