Frank's Autoformer? Available?

We have spent the greater portion of today looking at surge protectors and autoformers.

The Hughes autoformer is available at several different sites.

Frank's autoformer had some features described in various forum posts that my husband liked.

We have tried to find a place where we could buy a Frank's but can find no active link.

Does anyone know if they can still be purchased?

Thanks
  • There are at least 2 models. One is 4000 watts which makes it about perfect for a 30 amp RV. It can be hard wired--but I chose to equip mine with a 30 amp female plug and a 5 foot cord with a 30 amp male plug.

I also added pair of female 15 amp plugs, one on the input side and one on the output side. That allows me to monitor the boost.

The other model (I think) is 8000 watts.

If we are going to Mexico, what and where would we look for a Sola Unit? Are they all hardwired? Do they make a 30amp? Pictures anyone.
  • The Sola would def. be a good one to get, *if* you have someone in Mexico to pick it up. Business opportunity!

I have also heard Frank's is no longer around. There is the Power Master voltage controller but it also is out of production from what I can see. And there is also the TRC voltage regulator

We bought a used Hughes 30 amp unit for $200 and it works great. We don't need it often but when we do, we really need it and our EMS will shut us down otherwise. I made up a 6' extension cord so the autoformer can sit under our trailer instead of out in the elements.

FWIW, Hughes autoformers now have an indication of missing ground or neutral or reverse polarity and a 2400 joule surge suppression.

I installed a permanent LED voltmeter on the wall inside and always know how the voltage is doing and check it when we first plug into the pedestal to see if the autoformer is needed.
