Frige problem dometic model 2658

History: mid Sept had a power surge. Killed microwave and one breaker.
oct 12: on trip and ran out of gas. Frige was working fine until then. Frige quit working. Realized then electrical side of frige not working. Filled propane tanks, and 10 amp fuse in control board. Now frige will not cool below 60 degrees. Have 120 volts to heater on electric and good flame on gas. Coils get extreemly hot on gas but only warm on electric. Do y'all think it's the control board of something else?

  • Last night I reset the frige to the same conditions as when we left on our trip last Wednesday.(it was working properly then even thou it wasn't working on electric) That is, I set the controls on "auto" and pulled the ac fuse since it was blown when we left home. This am freezer is at 10 below zero and frige is at 30 degrees. Apparently, it reverted to gas and never cut off. What I plan on doing is running it this way but cut it offf some to get the fridge temp up a little until I get home next week. I priced a control board at Camping World in Ocala and it was way too much compaired to Amazon and Ebay.
  • To test thermistor
Unplug from lower control module (P2)
Stick the thermistor (bulb end) in a glass of ice water (more ice than water)
After 3 minutes you should get a resistance reading of 7,000 to 10,000 ohms (measure at wire end)

    Higher/lower resistance..thermistor is faulty

Fuses are 3A for DC control circuit, 5A for AC and a 35A but only on a 3way fridge-------never seen/heard of 10A fuse being used.

And cooling unit failing has nothing to do with bad control board----means cooling unit is clogging/plugging up and flow of cooling medium is disrupted
  • Bad control board does not necessarily meen "cooling unit failing". I think you can remove the control board and take it to Crown RV and they can test it for you. Usually though, control boards work or they don't if fuses are good. Might try replacing the electric heating element and see if that makes it work on electric (not that expensive). There is a procedure for testing the thermistor but I cannot recall what it is right now, but if the thermistor stops working, it will usually not cool at all, or will freeze everything in the fridge. Someone will correct me if I'm totally off base as I sometimes am since I am not an RV repair person, just a sometime camper.

    plenty of ventilation
    frige is level
    how to you test thermistor?
Does bad control board come under "cooling unit failing"?

10 amp is printed on the control panel.
