Fuel fill rubber hose to gas tank, HELP!!

We have a 1993 Thor Pinnacle 30 ft class A motorhome on a chevrolet p30 chasis. The rubber hose from the metal inlet tube to the gas tank was leaking. I have removed the filler door/unit from the outside of the rv, also have the rubber hoses removed from the gas tank. I am unable to get the metal filler tube to move far enough in or out to get to the clamps holding the rubber hose onto the metal filler neck. Any suggestions or tips on how to get the metal filler tube to move far enough one way or the other to get to those clamps would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone had to change the rubber fuel inlet hoses on their rv and had this problem?

  • If you have to have help and suggestions as to how to remove the clamps then how will you ever be able to retighten them..this is not an area where there is room for a lot of guessing and mistakes. I wld sugest you take it to a garage where some with more experance can do the job rite..there is nothing worse than being 1000 miles from home and discover that you cant fill your tanks cause the filler hose has slipped off the connector on the tank or even worse like a fuel leak that can really become dicey and quick. But if you insist I used a mirrow and several etensions on my 1/4 inch drive ratchet and a flash lite..
  • I had a 95P30 chassis. I was able to replace the hose from underneath the rig. I used a short steel exhaust tube for the connection. However my leak was in the middle of hose. I cut out the bad section and used two short exhaust tubes in the hose to support the two clamps.
  • Probably the ethanol eating it up. Try to find a replacement that will stand up to it.
  • Can you feel the clamps with your hand? There are some cable operated clamp pliers available that might work
