Furnace not working. Help Please.

Well, winter has come to Central Texas. I went to turn the furnace on in my Kodiak 19FL TT and it did not come on. I checked to make sure the propane was on. I checked the 15 amp furnace fuse in the panel. Checked the battery charge. It just does not come on. I mean it does nothing at all. The blower does not start, the ignitor does not click, nothing.

I can find nothing other then the thermostat to turn the furnace on. The thermostat has no on/off switch on it, it just has the temp control lever. All the way to the left side of the temperature scale (on the thermostat face) by 50 degrees it says "OFF", so I am assuming that means that when you move the lever all the way to the left, it turns the unit off and that moving the lever from the position turns the unit on.

I have moved the thermostat all the way to 90 degrees, but nothing happens. Is there some other thing I need to do to get the unit to turn on?

  • Found the problem. Mud Dauber nest in the blower housing. Jammed up the fan blades. The motor is shot. Arrggg!

Check your house battery voltage, IF too low furnace will not respond.
  • I would bet on an insect nest blocking the blower- regardless, the unit needs to come out and be bench tested.
  • You may have some wires chewed up by mice. Check close where the burned wire smell is coming from.
  • I think the blow motor is burnt out or something. I pulled the panel off and I could definitely smell that distinct burnt motor smell. When I turn the thermostat off it goes away after a while, but when I turn it on I hear a tiny click and the smell comes back.

You didn't mention the brand of furnace, so I'm shooting in the dark a little. Pull the panel off the furnace cover and look for a reset switch.

    Sorry. Suburban Manufacturing, Model: NT-20S
