generator size for A/C

Tried search for "generator size for A/C", no hits.

Couple questions

1. Is Honda 1000 size enough to run A/C (13oo but size)or would I need 2 of them in tandem?

2. Honda's brochure says
Eco-Throttle™ allows the generator's engine to automatically adjust the engine speed to produce only the power needed for the application in use.
and on different page
Fuel efficient - up to 8.3 hrs on 0.6 gal of gas

Is this a sneaky way of saying... your still going to burn thru 3/4 gallon of gas an hour like my Onan 3.5 if your running power to something like A/C?

What are you folks getting for run time per gallon?

  • I wouldn't buy anything less than 2400 if I was running an AC.

  • Hi,

The 1000 watt only puts out 900 watts. The air had a continuous draw of about 1200 watts. Start up surge may be three times that amount.

You can do it with a 2000 watt genny, if you go to a hybrid inverter such as the Magnum 3012. But the inverter and the remote will set you back $1880.00
  • Some will say they get a 2000 to run a 13K BTU A/C. I use two 2000's in parallel. A Yamaha 2400 might do it. Others will have better info on the Yamaha.
  • Eu3000i Honda for a 13,500 btu A/C or pair up two Eu2000i's with a pairing cable for 3600 watts.
