We recently purchased a B Van with a Cummins/Onan Generator it is the 25 KV unit.We are trying to decide if we should purchase the one year extended warranty for $295.00,this would give us a three year total warranty period. We would like to know if the people in the forum will recommend the purchase.

Thank You

  • Charles, I would suggest posting your phone number out on a public forum is an open invitation to abuse by unwanted scammers.

Posting phone numbers, email addresses and any other contact info is a fantastic way for scammers to get enough info to steal your ID.

This forum does have a Private Messaging (PM) system in which your personal info is not revealed if someone contacts you directly.

As far as extended warranties, for the most part it is nothing more than an insurance policy. The dealer sells this policy in the hopes that you never, ever show up again for warranty work past the manufacturers provided warranty period. If you never show up then they made pure profit doing nothing.

The problem with these dealer warranty addons is the warranty companies often go out of business BEFORE you need it or the fine print excludes your repairs and or they decide you failed to properly maintain something which caused a failure. These addon warranties are not from the RV manufacturer, they are what is known as "third parties".

Find out if the warranty is only good at the dealer you bought it at and how the reimbursement is done if you need warranty work done at a different dealer (if you are out of state and something breaks and the warranty is good only at your dealer then you pay out of pocket for repair then have to fight with the warranty company to get money back).

READ ALL the fine print BEFORE SIGNING OR HANDING OVER ANY MONEY. KNOW and understand the details to the "T" of all conditions and terms.

Ask for and look up the actual warranty company, read the reviews.
  • On any extended warranty you really need to read the fine print and know exactly what is covered under what conditions, what can make it so the company can refuse to cover it and how much if any is the deductible. You should also research the company to see if they have any negative reviews or complaints to the BBB.

I don't buy them as I rarely find them worth it. Having one on my truck cost me more to get things fixed than just paying to get them fixed in the first place.
  • Extended warrenties are almost total profit for the seller.
BTW welcome to the forums, but please remember to check where you are posting. This question has nothing to do with Forum technical support. I have asked the moderator to move it for you to the correct forum.
