The Champion 3100 looks like a decent generator for best bang for buck, with relative low noise. With a two way (or even better a three-way, LPG/CNG/gasoline kit), it would be handy. The main reason the 3100 is relatively inexpensive is because it has no electric start (so no remote start possible.) If that isn't a big deal, it is a good workhorse generator.
The downside of propane is that it goes fast, and can be a lot harder to find than gasoline. However, propane doesn't go bad (assuming the cylinders are not rusting out), so having a conversion may come in handy. To boot, if one ran a generator on propane for 5-10 minutes before storing it, there would be no gasoline to cause varnish and clogs in the carb bowl.
