Genisis 3.0

Issue at hand is that the Genesis radio in my Puma 30RKSS (2014) has serious reception issues. Now let me clarify further. The first radio went back to the factory as well only pulled in 3 FM stations. When the replacement arrived, I pulled the old one out of the cabinet and had them sitting on the floor side by side while I transferred all the wires from one to the other. When That was done, I put the old unit in the box for shipping back. Before placing the new unit into the cabinet I turned it on. Excellent 25+ FM stations and 10+ AM stations. Problem solved. So I thought. I turned the unit off and mounted it back into the cabinet. Turned unit back on...Shut the Front Door! What the heck happened to all my radio stations? Poof they are gone, down to 7 FM and about 4 AM. Any ideas? All the entertainment connections are in this small cabinet, electric supply and TV antennae. Is this causing interference? HELP!

I could likely get AM working provided nobody near you has a MSW inverter, but the method is kind of interesting......

Am needs a lot of antenna to work well, like 75 meters of wire (ideally) that's a lot of wire. but you can get by with shorter lengths.

(I build my own antennas for a lot of stuff)
  • Thought i would update. The problem was diagnosed by Palomino. It turns out that during the build the wrong antennae was installed. By doing so, the antennae would not connect to the radio so it was spliced with the correct fitting. It would appear that this splice did not hold properly and was shorting out against itself or the walls of the trailer when compacted. The solution was to not use the roof antennae, but instead the radio is connected to the Wineguard TV antennae. Plenty of FM stations, but AM is still not working. I can live with that. Incidentally the first radio tested fine at the factory.

    have a great winter everybody!
  • Thanks for replying. I do not know what a Faraday cage is, but the cabinet is just a wooden entertainment center. I have tried an external antenna, I get improvement but it's not significant. I believe the aluminum walls and studs causes the interference on the exterior antennae. My problem is not unique, in fact on another forum there are several complaints. My theory is that the tight quarters in that cabinet with all the media electronics, combined with the proximity of the aluminum walls and studs is causing the issue. Again when the radio sits on the floor outside the cabinet, there is no problem. Genesis has not replied to my inquiry nor has Forest River.

    Thanks again!

I suspect the cabinet you are putting it in is a Farady cage (it does not let signals in) Several options present themselves but alas I would need eyes on to be specific.

One is to mount the thing on drawer slides so you can simply pull it out of the cabinet to use it.

Another is to rig an external antenna (Way easier to do than it sounds, epically on FM. The big thing is when you moved the radio you moved the antennas.
