GFCI outlet moving

In my TT after much searching I located the main GFCI outlet. It is in the entertainment center cabinet behind the TV set. If it trips the TV has to be moved to reset the circuit. Can I simply switch the main outlet with one of the other more accessible outlets in the circuit.

  • Is a GFCI circuit breaker available for your box? That may be the easiest fix.
  • You could but would lose GFCI protection for all of the receptacles that were downstream of the original GFCI location. The GFCI is usually the first outlet in a branch circuit, being closest to the load center.

An alternative might be to add in a single gang box, close to the GFCI original location and make that the new GFCI location. The original location can be filled with a standard receptacle.
