GFI outlet tripping for no (??) reason

This is not a RV issue, but I need help.

At my stick home I have a GFI outlet connected to 2 other outside outlets and 2 outdoor motion sensing lights. I do not have anything plug into the outdoor outlets. The 2 lights work OK for a few days, then the GFI will trip. It is driving me crazy . . :h . . trying to find the problem.

I know that there is some problem -- reason --- for the GFI to trip.

Any suggestion would be helpful.

  • I would change the GFCI but also wire the motion light direct and bypass the GFCI. In the even the circuit trips again the light will remain working.

Is you refer on electric? If so your heating element may be going bad causing the GFI to trip.
  • GFI could have gone bad. I have replaced several that started tripping for no apparent reason. They are mechanical, so do have a lifespan.

Of course it could be in the wiring, but if nothing is new I would doubt it. Replace the GFI. If the new GFI trips then look elsewhere ( and then you have a spare GFI for later. )
  • Maybe your motion sensors are causing the problem. Or one of the outside outlets is getting wet.
The GFIs are extremely sensitive and doesn't take much to trip them.
