Those connectors have been around a long time and work VERY well. They are code everywhere and have been used in just about every commercial building for decades now - they are dead reliable.
They do need to be in a junction box when used with 120VAC.
They are NOT the same kind of connection as used in RV outlets that effectively work like Scotch-locks.
